Day 1: Edinburgh to Loch Ness
Departs 8.45am. Leaving Edinburgh our route takes us past Stirling, home to legends such as William Wallace and Robert the Bruce and scene of many of Scotland’s most famous and bloody battles in the Wars of Independence. Further north we pass through dramatic Glencoe, the ‘Weeping Glen’ and site of the massacre of 1692, more recently used as a backdrop in the movie ‘Skyfall’. We pass under the shadow of Ben Nevis and enter the Great Glen arriving at Fort Augustus for the evening.
Day 2: The Isle of Skye
We head west to the Isle of Skye past beautiful Eilean Donan Castle. We then spend the day exploring the beautiful island also known as the ‘winged isle’ or the ‘Isle of Mist’. With its ruined castles and awesome scenery, it’s immersed in Celtic myths and Viking legends. Back to the mainland and Inverness, capital of the Highlands for the start of the festivities.
Day 3: Christmas Day
Christmas Day. We’ll head out with our packed lunches for a day of adventures, snow-capped mountains, beaches history and stories. Breath in that fine crisp Scottish air (it will cure any hangovers) and enjoy the beautiful Scottish surroundings. Snow permitting your Guide will do their best to find the best place to enjoy a snowball fight with time to build a snowman or snow-angle making, go on indulge your inner child! Return to a warm antiquated hotel for a scrummy Christmas meal, turkey, tinsels and brussel sprouts galore (sprouts optional). Work off some of that meal by grabbing a partner to join in on some traditional Scottish Ceilidh dancing in ‘The Wallace Ballroom’ with its classic furnishings, antique portraits, works of art and glorious crystal chandeliers. A truly Scottish Christmas cracker!
Day 4: Inverness to Loch Ness
We head for the sweeping and eerie Culloden Moor, sight of the defeat of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Jacobite uprising. Then into the remote Highland wilderness amongst the mountains, glens and rivers. We’ll drive along the banks of Loch Ness passing Urquhart Castle as we make our way to our home for the night, back to the fantastic Morag’s Lodge in Fort Augustus. Grab your Tartan Toga, tonight it’s time to party!
Day 5: Loch Ness to Edinburgh
