Route until end March:

Mountains, Lochs & Whisky!

A relaxing day out exploring the stunning scenery of Highland Perthshire. Includes a visit to one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries and the chance to sample some malt whisky*!

We head for the Highlands to take in some famous sights, as well as getting off the beaten track to discover some wonderful hidden gems. First stop is the impressive Wallace Monument, overlooking historic Stirling with its stunning castle. Hear tales of William Wallace and get the real story behind the legend with our expert local guides.

Meet a ‘hairy coo’ as we head into the Highlands. We skirt the Trossachs (Rob Roy country) and view the impressive Falls of Dochart. Then journey alongside beautiful Loch Tay, under the towering peaks of Ben Lawers. After picking up some lunch, what better way to end the day than with a wee dram?  Our final stop gives you the option* to take a whisky tasting tour at Scotland’s oldest (legal) distillery, Glenturret ( home of The Famous Grouse Experience).

*The tour lasts approximately 1 hour, costs £5 and includes a tour of the distillery itself as well as a 'wee dram' of whisky to warm your heart and round off a stunning tour of the highlands. Those who don't wish to take the tour can enjoy a great wee forest walk in the local area (ask your guide) or spend time in the restaraunt, gift shop and bar, located within the distillery.

Finally, it’s over the magnificent Forth Bridge and back to Edinburgh, returning in the early evening.

Route from April:
From April 2010, we're amending the itinerary to offer customers the option of two fantastic attractions on this trip (Menzies Castle and a whisky distillery).  This increases the total time spent off the coach and improves the overall customer experience by building in more choice on how you spend your time & money.

Whisky, Waterfalls, Walks & Castles

A gorgeous 1 day tour of the highlands giving you the chance to sample some malt whisky, visit a Castle and take a wee walk in the Highlands – The perfect day out if you’re looking for a taste of what the Scottish Highlands have to offer.

We leave Edinburgh behind and head for the Highlands via Stirling, through the scenic beauty of the Trossachs National Park and the Highland village of Killin. We hear tales of Rob Roy and view the impressive Falls of Dochart, fed by the highest peaks in the Southern Highlands including the mighty Ben Lawers.
Then we journey alongside beautiful Loch Tay and visit a stunning 16th Century Castle** (entrance fee £5 Adults, £4 Students).  Castle Menzies has been the seat of the Menzies clan for more than 400 years and was used as a resting place by Bonnie Prince Charlie on his was to Culloden in 1746.  From here we make the short journey to the small town of Aberfeldy for lunch, where you have the option to enjoy a Whisky Distillery tour* (entrance fee £5), take a 45 minute walk in the famous ‘Birks of Aberfeldy’ or simply relax and explore Scotland’s first Fair Trade town.

*Dewar’s World of Whisky is an award winning, five star visitor centre and whisky distillery set in beautiful Highland Perthshire. The ‘world of whisky’ experience will not only give you an in-depth experience into how ‘uisge beatha’ (the water of life) is made, but also takes you on an interactive journey to discover the history of one of Scotland’s most iconic whisky brands.

In the afternoon we head into the stunning heart of Perthshire and take a short woodland walk at The Hermitage (past some of Scotland’s tallest trees), to see spectacular waterfalls, Ossian’s Cave and the unusual Victorian folly.

Finally, it’s back to Edinburgh past the magnificent Forth Bridges arriving back in the early evening.
