The Highland Fling

Day 1: 27th December

We leave Scotland's capital and head to Stirling, home to legends such as William Wallace and Robert the Bruce and scene of many of Scotland’s most famous and bloody battles.  Our route north takes us through the dramatic & inspiring Glencoe, and if weather permits we may well take one of our legendary ‘wee walks’, before heading for Fort William - in the shadow of mighty Ben Nevis (Britain’s highest mountain). Travelling through the Great Glen we head for Fort Augustus. Staying on the banks of Loch Ness, in Fort Augustus, we discover a bit more of Highland history and culture, before trying to entice Nessie out for a wee dram!

Isle Of Skye Kyleakin

Day 2: 28th December

Today we explore the magical Isle of Skye. Ruined castles, awesome scenery, Viking fortresses and home to the legendary MacLeod and MacDonald Clans.  Immersed in Celtic myths and legends, hear all about the Faeries and the Selkies, and local characters who have contributed to the rich history of this magical island.  Quite simply unmissable! Tonight you will stay at the hostel in Kyleakin on the Isle of Skye.

See more with Haggis!

Day 3: 29th December

Before heading south en route for Edinburgh, we follow the entire length of Loch Ness, searching for a priceless glimpse of the legendary beast.  We visit Inverness, capital of the Highlands, and head for brooding Culloden Moor, sight of the defeat of Bonne Prince Charlie’s Jacobite uprising. After a bite to eat and perhaps another ‘wee walk’, we head south for Pitlochry, Dunkeld and Perth before arriving back in Edinburgh at approximately 5.30pm. An action packed and unforgettable 3 days and check in to your Edinburgh City centre hostel.

Last day of Skye High Tour for some OR Check into your city centre accommodation and have a wee wander around to get your bearings.
Tonight, we’ll get together and kick things off in spectacular fashion, joining the amazing Torchlight Procession, the opening event of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay 2011.  Join the famous Up Helly Aa’ Vikings from Shetland and thousands of torch carriers as they create a river of fire from the historic Royal Mile to the Son et Lumiére and fireworks finale on Calton Hill. Afterwards, we’ve got a party lined up in a local venue so everyone can get into the party spirit straight away
Daytime: Free time; Evening: Optional Group Events

Edinburgh Castle

Day 4: 30th December

Today you are free to explore the city at your own pace.  There are loads of events happening as part of  Edinburgh’s Winter Festival, so why not head down to Princes Street Gardens and explore the Winter Wonderland, from Ice Rinks and Big Wheels to Reindeer Pens and German markets - where you can warm up with some Glühwein or try some hot cherry beer.  Tonight it’s party time!  We’re throwing a Ceilidh (traditional Scottish dancing event) where you’ll get to meet all our other Snogmanayers (people attending Hogmanay) and dance the night away with men (and women) in kilts.

Princess Street Gardens

Day 5: 31st December - Hogmanay!

The daytime is free for you to do whatever you choose, why not head to the Castle, take a walking tour around the Old Town or see in New Year with people in other parts of the world throughout the day in a local pub (if you can handle the pace).  Late in the afternoon we’ll have a pre-party party which you’re welcome to join us at, before being let loose on the streets for the main event, the biggest New Year party ever. Don’t forget, when the clock strikes 12 it’s your chance to kiss all and sundry and wish them Happy Hogmanay!

The Crags - Arthur's seat

Day 6: 1st January

Why not fight that hangover and breathe in some of that great Scottish air!  At the bottom of the Royal Mile you will find Arthur's Seat, a distinct Volcano. It’s a bit of a climb but offers amazing views over the city and on a clear day you can see the Forth Rail Bridge. Another great view point is Carlton Hill with the Acropolis (unfinished war memorial) and the Observatory.  This is less of a climb but offers 360 degree views of the city.  After a busy morning, why not warm up with a hot toddie or a mug of mulled wine at Princes Street Gardens before showing off your skating skills on the outdoor ice rink!  Tonight, the partying will continue all over the city....are you up to the pace?

Day 7: Farewell

Check out of your hostel in the morning. Before you leave be sure to breathe in the last of  that fine Scottish air and the magnificent views of the city before heading off on your travels OR Check-in for your 3 Day Skye High Tour - as per above.
