Who Cares? Scotland Nepal trek
By working in collaboration with Community Action Nepal and participating Scottish Local Authorities, Who Cares? Scotland hopes to raise much-needed money to improve the health and education of people in Nepal. Community Action Nepal’s (CAN) main goal is to bring long-term benefits to the lives of the rural population, with its main focus on sustainable health and education projects, working with local inhabitants of remote villages.
This trip is giving young people in care throughout Scotland and their workers the opportunity to plan and work towards an amazing experience of a trek through Nepal that will provide them with a completely different perspective on their lives. At the same time by raising money for Who Cares Scotland and Community Action Nepal they will also be helping other young people in care, and improve the health and education of people in some of the poorer middle regions of Nepal
Coach travel for both groups between Glasgow and London Heathrow airport is being provided free by Haggis Adventures.

Pete Duncan, Radical’s General Manager, wished all the participants going to Nepal the best of luck on behalf of the group’s charities’ committee which he chairs.
‘Since the business began in 1993, HAGGiS Adventures has taken great pride in working with local charities. Our business is based around people and the chance to support Who Cares Scotland? in such a direct way fits perfectly with our philosophy of ‘giving back’. Several of our team have requested to participate in this event and we are delighted that we are able to contribute to this fantastic opportunity in some way’.

Festive Charity Raffle 2008
Scotland’s leading youth travel company, HAGGiS Adventures has raised £2,256 through their annual Festive Charity Raffle and their voluntary ECO-scheme. The ECO-Scheme allows customers to donate on-line to support leading environmental charities, every pound donated is 100% matched by the Company.
This year’s beneficiaries are CHAS (Children’s Hospice Association Scotland), The John Muir Trust, The Snowdonia Society and Trees for Life.
CHAS (a Scottish Charity) that was established to provide hospice services to children and young people with life-limiting conditions in Scotland. They received £1000.

Jayne Forbes, Fundraiser (Southeast) said “CHAS run the only two children’s hospices in Scotland. CHAS services are free to families who need them but it costs CHAS over £5 million each year to run Rachel House, Robin House and the CHAS at Home service. We receive a very small percentage of our funding from statutory grants but the majority of this money comes from the public and events such as the Haggis charity raffle. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who participated in and organised this event, it’s a fantastic amount to raise that will really help us to provide the best possible care for children with life limiting conditions and their families.”
Conservation charity The John Muir Trust received a cheque for £1,266.

“We are delighted to receive this most welcome support from HAGGiS Adventure Charity Team.” commented Dave Picken, Head of Development for the John Muir Trust. “Money raised for the Trust will go towards the conservation of the most remote and beautiful areas of wild land in Scotland.”
Trees for Life received £266. “We’re very grateful for HAGGiS Adventure’s donation; the money raised has been used to plant 53 Scots Pines on the Nature Reserve in Corrimony, Glen Urquhart. HAGGiS Adventures takes a positive approach to lowering their environmental impact, and this is one way in which they’ve shown their commitment to supporting the Scottish environment” said Kerrigan Bell, Trees for Life’s Marketing and Development Manager.
The Snowdonia Society received a cheque for £231. Alun Pugh, Director of the charity commented, “We are most grateful for this kind donation which contributes to our charity's programme of protecting the National Park. It's really good to see travel companies who feature National Parks in their programmes making a real effort to supporting practical conservation work."
Pete Duncan, Head of the HAGGiS Adventures Charity Team commented ‘‘Every year our team organise a Charity Raffle for our highly popular Festive Season Tours, and we are delighted once again to be able to give something back to the areas in which we operate.”
HAGGiS Charity Raffle Supports
In recent years HAGGiS Adventures has donated over £18,000 to such causes as CHAS (Children’s Hospice Association of Scotland), the Mountain Rescue Service, National Trust for Scotland, John Muir Trust, Tsunami Appeal, Bali Bombing fund, Children 1st, Trees for Life, Sick Kids Friends Foundation, and Hope House Children’s Hospices (Wales).
This would not have been possible without the generous support of our industry partners and colleagues (who donate prizes for the raffle) and the commitment of our team to make a difference.
Some specific donations include:
National Trust for Scotland, Sole Trading Appeal
"Staff at HAGGiS Adventures, the youth tour specialists, have donated £1,075 for The National Trust for Scotland’s Sole Trading Appeal. The money will go towards much needed mountain footpath repair work and will help reduce erosion on the hillside and protect Scotland’s Mountains."
Tsunami Disaster Fund – Buy a Boat Appeal
"On behalf of the Irish Sri Lanka Trust Fund I would like to thank HAGGiS Adventures for your generous donation of £1,750 to the ‘Buy a Boat appeal’.
Your boat will provide a vital lifeline, providing work for three fishermen, not only helping to return them to their livelihoods, but also aiding them in their continuing effort to raise funds to pay for the building and refurbishing of homes, schools and orphanages. The boats were built locally in Sri-Lanka by reputable boat builders, which in turn created additional employment.
With the generosity of everyone, the coastal areas will eventually have homes built, and hopefully, in the not too distant future, normality will be restored to the people of Sri-Lanka who have suffered from the tsunami disaster.
We appreciate that there are many demands on your generosity and we are truly grateful for your support."
